BurpSuite Introduction & Installation



What is BurpSuite?
Burp Suite is a Java based Web Penetration Testing framework. It has become an industry standard suite of tools used by information security professionals. Burp Suite helps you identify vulnerabilities and verify attack vectors that are affecting web applications. Because of its popularity and breadth as well as depth of features, we have created this useful page as a collection of Burp Suite knowledge and information.

In its simplest form, Burp Suite can be classified as an Interception Proxy. While browsing their target application, a penetration tester can configure their internet browser to route traffic through the Burp Suite proxy server. Burp Suite then acts as a (sort of) Man In The Middle by capturing and analyzing each request to and from the target web application so that they can be analyzed.











Everyone has their favorite security tools, but when it comes to mobile and web applications I've always found myself looking BurpSuite . It always seems to have everything I need and for folks just getting started with web application testing it can be a challenge putting all of the pieces together. I'm just going to go through the installation to paint a good picture of how to get it up quickly.

BurpSuite is freely available with everything you need to get started and when you're ready to cut the leash, the professional version has some handy tools that can make the whole process a little bit easier. I'll also go through how to install FoxyProxy which makes it much easier to change your proxy setup, but we'll get into that a little later.

Requirements and assumptions:

Mozilla Firefox 3.1 or Later Knowledge of Firefox Add-ons and installation The Java Runtime Environment installed

Download BurpSuite from http://portswigger.net/burp/download.htmland make a note of where you save it.

If this is your first time running the JAR file, it may take a minute or two to load, so be patient and wait.

ShodanEye: Collect Infomation About All Devices Connected To The Internet With Shodan


About ShodanEye
   This tool collects all information about all devices that are directly connected to the internet with the specified keywords that you enter. This way you get a complete overview.

About Shodan Search Engine
   Shoan is a search engine that lets the user find specific types of computers (webcams, routers, servers, etc.) connected to the internet using a variety of filters. Some have also described it as a search engine of service banners, which are metadata that the server sends back to the client.

   What is the difference between Google or another search engine: The most fundamental difference is that Shodan Eye crawls on the internet, Google on the World Wide Web. However, the devices that support the World Wide Web are only a small part of what is actually connected to the Internet.

   If you're using GNU/Linux, open your terminal and enter these commands:

   If you're a Windows user, follow these steps to install ShodanEye:
  • Download and run Python 3.7.x setup file from Python.org. On Install Python 3.7, enable Add Python 3.7 to PATH.
  • Download shodan-eye-master.zip file.>
  • Then unzip it.
  • Open CMD or PowerShell window at the Osueta folder you have just unzipped and enter these commands:
    pip install shodan
    python shodan-eye.py

Save Your Cloud: DoS On VMs In OpenNebula 4.6.1

This is a post about an old vulnerability that I finally found the time to blog about. It dates back to 2014, but from a technical point of view it is nevertheless interesting: An XML parser that tries to fix structural errors in a document caused a DoS problem.

All previous posts of this series focused on XSS. This time, we present a vulnerability which is connected another Cloud Management Platform: OpenNebula. This Infrastructure-as-a-Service platform started as a research project in 2005. It is used by information technology companies like IBM, Dell and Akamai as well as academic institutions and the European Space Administrations (ESA). By relying on standard Linux tools as far as possible, OpenNebula reaches a high level of customizability and flexibility in hypervisors, storage systems, and network infrastructures. OpenNebula is distributed using the Apache-2 license.


OpenNebula offers a broad variety of interfaces to control a cloud. This post focuses on Sunstone, OpenNebula's web interface (see Figure 1).

Before OpenNebula 4.6.2, Sunstone had no Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) protection. This is a severe problem. Consider an attacker who lures a victim into clicking on a malicious link while being logged in at a private cloud. This enables the attacker to send arbitrary requests to the private cloud through the victims browser. However, we could find other bugs in OpenNebula that allowed us to perform much more sophisticated attacks.

Denial-of-Service on OpenNebula-VM

At its backend, OpenNebula manages VMs with XML documents. A sample for such an XML document looks like this:

OpenNebula 4.6.1 contains a bug in the sanitization of input for these XML documents: Whenever a VM's name contains an opening XML tag (but no corresponding closing one), an XML generator at the backend automatically inserts the corresponding closing tag to ensure well-formedness of the resulting document. However, the generator outputs an XML document that does not comply with the XML schema OpenNebula expects. The listing below shows the structure that is created after renaming the VM to 'My <x> VM':

The generator closes the <x> tag, but not the <NAME> tag. At the end of the document, the generator closes all opened tags including <NAME>.

OpenNebula saves the incorrectly generated XML document in a database. The next time the OpenNebula core retrieves information about that particular VM from the database the XML parser is mixed up and runs into an error because it only expects a string as name, not an XML tree. As a result, Sunstone cannot be used to control the VM anymore. The Denial-of-Service attack can only be reverted from the command line interface of OpenNebula.

This bug can be triggered by a CSRF-attack, which means that it is a valid attack against a private cloud: By luring a victim onto a maliciously crafted website while logged in into Sunstone, an attacker can make all the victim's VMs uncontrollable via Sunstone.  VISUAL FEATURES 

This tool has a visual crawler. Normal crawlers doesn't parse the ajvascript, this tool does. The visual crawler loads each link of the web site, rendering the html and executing all the javascript as a normal load, then the links are processed from he DOM and clicked.
A visual form cracker, is also available, althow is experimental and only works on some kind of forms.


 SCANNING FEATURES

The web-fu's portscanner, has a database of a common web ports, like 80,81,8080 and so on.
The cracker module, can bruteforce web directories to find new attack vectors, and can fuzz get and post parameters for discovering vulns, and also crack passwords. There are 9 preloaded wordlists, and you can also load a custom wordlist. Prefilters, falsepositive reductor and render will be helpful. The scanners support SSL, if the website can be loaded in the chrome, can be scanned by web-fu.


ENCODERS & DECODERS

The supported encoders and decoders are: base64, urlescape and urlencode


OTHER FEATURES

A web notepad is available, saving the information on the browser localStorage, there is one notepad per site. A cookie editor is also very useful for pentesting. The inteceptor, is like a web proxy but from the inside of the browser, you can intercept a request There is also a session locker and a exploit web search.

Reversing Rust String And Str Datatypes

Lets build an app that uses several data-types in order to see how is stored from a low level perspective.

Rust string data-types

The two first main objects are "str" and String, lets check also the constructors.




Imports and functions

Even such a basic program links several libraries and occupy 2,568Kb,  it's really not using the imports and expots the runtime functions even the main. 


Even a simple string operation needs 544 functions on rust:


Main function

If you expected see a clear main function I regret to say that rust doesn't seem a real low-level language In spite of having a full control of the memory.


Ghidra turns crazy when tries to do the recursive parsing of the rust code, and finally we have the libc _start function, the endless loop after main is the way Ghidra decompiles the HLT instruction.


If we jump to main, we see a function call, the first parameter is rust_main as I named it below:



If we search "hello world" on the Defined Strings sections, matches at the end of a large string


After doing "clear code bytes" we can see the string and the reference:


We can see that the literal is stored in an non null terminated string, or most likely an array of bytes. we have a bunch of byte arrays and pointed from the code to the beginning.
Let's follow the ref.  [ctrl]+[shift]+[f] and we got the references that points to the rust main function.


After several naming thanks to the Ghidra comments that identify the rust runtime functions, the rust main looks more understandable.
See below the ref to "hello world" that is passed to the string allocated hard-coding the size, because is non-null terminated string and there is no way to size this, this also helps to the rust performance, and avoid the c/c++ problems when you forgot the write the null byte for example miscalculating the size on a memcpy.


Regarding the string object, the allocator internals will reveal the structure in static.
alloc_string function call a function that calls a function that calls a function and so on, so this is the stack (also on static using the Ghidra code comments)

Well I'm not gonna talk about the performance impact on stack but really to program well reusing code grants the maintainability and its good, and I'm sure that the rust developed had measured that and don't compensate to hardcode directly every constructor.

At this point we have two options, check the rust source code, or try to figure out the string object in dynamic with gdb.

Source code

Let's explain this group of substructures having rust source code in the hand.
The string object is defined at string.rs and it's simply an u8 type vector.



And the definition of vector can be found at vec.rs  and is composed by a raw vector an the len which is the usize datatype.



The RawVector is a struct that helds the pointer to the null terminated string stored on an Unique object, and also contains the allocation pointer, here raw_vec.rs definition.



The cap field is the capacity of the allocation and a is the allocator:



Finally the Unique object structure contains a pointer to the null terminated string, and also a one byte marker core::marker::PhantomData



Dynamic analysis

The first parameter of the constructor is the interesting one, and in x64 arch is on RDI register, the extrange sequence RDI,RSI,RDX,RCX it sounds like ACDC with a bit of imagination (di-si-d-c)

So the RDI parámeter is the pointer to the string object:



So RDI contains the stack address pointer that points the the heap address 0x5578f030.
Remember to disable ASLR to correlate the addresses with Ghidra, there is also a plugin to do the synchronization.

Having symbols we can do:

If the binary was compiled with symbols we can walk the substructures in this way:

If we try to get the pointer of each substructure we would find out that the the pointer is the same:


If we look at this pointer, we have two dwords that are the pointer to the null terminated string, and also 0xb which is the size, this structure is a vector.


The pionter to the c string is 0x555555790130




This seems the c++ string but, let's look a bit deeper:

So in this case the whole object is in stack except the null-terminated string.

Burp Exporter - A Burp Suite Extension To Copy A Request To The Clipboard As Multiple Programming Languages Functions


Exporter is a Burp Suite extension to copy a request to the clipboard as multiple programming languages functions.
You can export as:

Requirements

Burp Suite import
In Burp Suite, under the Extender/Extensions tab, click on the Add button, select Extension type Python and load the Exporter py file.

Usage
You can copy the request from:
  • Proxy > Intercept
  • Proxy > HTTP history
  • Target > Site map
  • Repeater
Right click > Exporter to > ...

Wafw00F: The Web Application Firewall Fingerprinting Tool

How does wafw00f work?
   To do its magic, WAFW00F does the following steps:
  • Sends a normal HTTP request and analyses the response; this identifies a number of WAF solutions.
